Stand with Parkland Applauds DeSantis on Removal of Scott Israel as Broward County Sheriff

Parkland, FL – Today Florida Governor Ron DeSantis removed Scott Israel from the office of Broward County Sheriff. This was done as a result of the findings from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Commission contained in the report that was submitted last week. Following is a statement from Tony Montalto, President of Stand with Parkland – The National Associations of Families for Safe Schools.

“Stand with Parkland – The National Association of Families for Safe Schools applauds the Governor for taking action based on the Commission’s work. The leaders of the dedicated men and women in law enforcement must ensure that their policies put the safety our state’s children first.

“We hope the Florida legislature in conjunction with the Governor is able to act on more of the Commission’s recommendations and build on the important first steps that became law in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act. The law demonstrated that our state was making positive change in addressing: 1) the security of the school campus, 2) working on better mental health programs, and 3) promoting responsible firearms ownership. The safety of our state’s students and staff should continue to be a place where all parties can come together and find the compromises needed to take action.

“Stand with Parkland – The National Association of Families for Safe Schools will continue advocate at all levels of government for the safety of all America’s students and staff at school.”

Stand with Parkland is a national organization representing American families. We are committed to advocating for practical public safety reforms focused on the safety of our children and staff at school, improved mental health support, and responsible firearms ownership. Personal responsibility and a desire for change are paramount to this effort, and it is the people involved at all levels that will make these goals a reality. Violence in our schools affects everyone. It is an American epidemic, and it is time that we all come together to do something about it.

Stand with Parkland’s families are committed to safe schools for our nation’s students and staff members and to achieving concrete results at the federal, state, and local level. More information is available at www.standwithparkland.org.
